Since it’s “official” inception on
April 11th 1955, modern day
Taekwondo has grown to become
one of the most popular of all
the martial arts to be practised
throughout the world today.
It is also considered by many to
be the most powerful martial art
and distinguishes itself by its
impressive kicking techniques.
Relatively speaking the
Taekwondo styles that exist
today are extremely modern –
with much of the development of
the martial art taking place in
the last 40-50 years.
However, it’s roots ascribe to
ancient Korea.
The Global Taekwondo Federation
(G.T.F.) was organised and
developed under the leadership of
the famous Taekwon-Do Grand
Master Park Jung Tae, 9th Degree
Black Belt.
The name "Park Jung Tae" was no
newcomer to the world of Martial
Arts. For years, he was
instrumental in the promotion and
development of Taekwondo and
his name is synonymous with
technical perfection, as a result,
Grand Master Park was ranked as
the leading technical trainer of
Taekwondo in the world.
Due to his dedication and devotion to the Art
of Taekwondo and his personal sacrifice to
promote Taekwondo worldwide, he was
recognised as a man of honour and a teacher
who possessed the true spirit of Taekwondo.
Grand Master Park become a legend in
Taekwondo circles and was sought after
throughout the World to conduct seminars and
training courses.
2002 was a very bad year for Taekwondo, not
only did the founder of Taekwondo, General
Choi pass away, but Grand Master Park Jung
Tae also left this world on April 11th 2002. A
bizarre coincidence that his departure was on
the same day as it’s official inception in 1955.
One thing is for certain—their influence on
Taekwondo will never be forgotten.
The Intrepid Clubs chief instructor - Mr. Darren
Scott (IV Degree) first started training with the
Mid-West Taekwondo.
The Mid-West Taekwondo Association was run by
Master Olhdam (now VIII degree) who joined
Grand Master Park Jung Tae (IX Degree) with the
Global Taekwondo Federation in 1991.
Since then, the Intrepid clubs have been part of
the GTF (which practices the ITF style of
Taekwondo).
In January 2009 however, the Intrepid clubs have
joined with Master David Brown (See the Links
page) to form the United Taekwondo Federation
(Scotland). The new Federation is affiliated to
the International Taekwondo Federation.
See the Clubs section for latest details in club
venues.
