Power tests demonstrate that a student has technical efficiency, precision, aim, and power.

The tests involve the breaking of boards (normally wooden or plastic) with adult students breaking several boards stacked one on top of the other.

Power Breaking. The power of a technique is measured by breaking single or multiple stacked boards. Stacked boards are commonly placed on raised supports on the ground.
The power of a technique is measured by breaking single or multiple stacked boards. Stacked boards are commonly placed on raised supports on the ground.
A single board is held lightly between the fingertips of an assistant. Regardless of the power of a technique, if the board is not hit with the requisite speed, in the correct places, it will not break. (This is sometimes referred to as “air-breaks”, because the board is generally unsuspended).

Special techniques in breaking combine athletic performance with perfect execution of techniques. These techniques include flying techniques and can be spectacular. Height and length of movements are emphasized.

It is very important to practice breaking without hurting oneself. Therefore, thorough preparation is essential.
